Ticket Prices and Ferry Timetables

If you visiting either Tauranga or Mount Maunganui you may want to consider a water taxi trip on Tauranga Harbour.

Bay Ferries operates a regular service in between the two sides of the harbour and it is a fast and fun way to make the journey.

The Orca, a very fast catamaran, can carry 28 passengers and on the 10-minute journey you will see aspects of the pretty harbour you can't get any other way.

Tauranga Water TaxiThere are the docks, usually pretty busy at any time of year, the city's drydock and the marina filled with yachts and boats of all descriptions.

You can board the fast ferry at a wharf on Tauranga's Strand (by the old ferry restaurant the Kestrel), or at the port area in Mount Maunganui.

If you do park in Tauranga there is free parking for passengers in the Strand Car Park. All you need to do is not the parking bay number and give it to the crew when you hop aboard.

The trip across the harbour is comfortable and, on a nice day, an exceptionally nice way to travel between the two parts of the harbour.

Tauranga Water TaxiThere are plenty of restaurants and cafes in both Tauranga and Mount Maunganui so you can cruise across to the other side for a good feed in a relaxed way.

Bay Ferries also runs 45-minute harbour tours that take you under the impressive Mount Maunganui and past the lovely ocean side of Matakana Island. Along the way the crew will keep an eye out for sting rays, penguins and pods of orcas and dolphins.
